A "Pinch" for Thailand In Terms of Tourism?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing tourism in Thailand and a bit of a "pinch". I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Thai Examiner, that is thaiexaminer.com, Thailand feels the pinch of lower tourism earnings as second ex-minister queries economic data. Quoting directly: "Former Deputy Minister of Labour warns that a continuation of the current trend with twin deficits would be bad news for the Kingdom. Thailand's foreign currency reserves dipped again on Friday 21st, October with the Bank of Thailand on Saturday issuing a statement in which it said it was monitoring volatile movements of the Baht carefully. The Government led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Minister of Finance Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, meanwhile is highlighting the country's expected growth rate of 3% to 3.5% for 2022, inward investment and rising numbers of foreign tourists returning to the country aided by a lower priced Baht."
Yeah, I think it is kind of a bad time right this minute to really be trying to gauge tourism. Yes we are reopened, but we are sitting here in October, at least the end of October as of the time of this video, going into November. November usually is historically a little better than October. October in my experience, it is just not the heart of the high season and we are not quite there yet. But numbers are looking good. I mean when things reopened here sort of midsummer and everything was kind of becoming a little more hunky dory, things were moving forward. Here in October, again not a big tourism time but hopefully we are going to see some more snowbirds coming in and I definitely think that in the longer run, we are probably going to see some major positive developments with respect to tourism here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
