Passport Validity and Visa Issuance?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Passport Issuance and Visa Validity. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "USA Passports are valid for 10 years but I start looking to get mine renewed about the 9th year, and Ben you forgot to add that to travel /renew ones you need at least 6 months remaining on one’s valid passport as well." Yeah that is something I should have brought up.

In a lot of situations, countries won't even let many people into their country these days without more than 6 months validity on their passport; oftentimes they won't even issue visas unless there is more than 6 months validity on their passport. So yeah, in a very real sense the validity of a passport from a practical standpoint is like nine and a half years rather than a full 10. So yeah, if you have got a passport and you are looking, you are saying, "well, I don't need to renew it, I'm on year 7", well you don't need to renew it immediately but year 9 is kind of a good rule of thumb. I think that commenter brought up a good rule of thumb there, that yeah 9 years is about the point at which you want to start renewing your passport to kind of keep yourself out of any problems especially if you are an expat and you are maintaining Visa status abroad because validity of passport can cause a lot of complications when it comes to the validity of the Visa that one is looking to acquire.
