A Page from the Chinese Expat Book on Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing well taking a page from the Chinese playbook on being an expat in Thailand. What am I talking about here? I was actually talking to a friend of mine who is Chinese, Chinese-Thai, and he was talking about sort of the influx of the Expat community of Chinese in Thailand and it came up that a third person that was in this conversation basically said: "why are the Chinese all flooding down here to Thailand to buy condos?" and my friend said "well most of them, it is their plan B, that is kind of how the conversation played out."

For those who are unaware, there is a lot of talk in the Expat Community about sort of having a plan B. Basically having another option if the country that you primarily live in or the place you are primarily staying isn't going through the kind of times you want to be living in. Finding sort of an alternative out there that is sort of set up and ready to go in terms of just being able to leave one given country and just get on a plane and come to this other country, in this case you can think of Thailand, and you are just sort of good to go. My friend said "well it wouldn't surprise me if the Chinese are coming down here; buying a condo; putting a safe in it; buying some Thai gold, throwing the Thai gold in there; maybe throwing in a little cash, maybe some other Investments here in Thailand, but gold and cash and that is their plan B." That condo is just sitting there as sort of a plan B. if something happens in their business or wherever they are at, or maybe they are not even living in China, they are living somewhere else but if they are put on their back foot if you will, they will come back to Thailand and just hang out for a little while.

I thought that wasn't too bad of an idea. I never really thought of it like that that maybe a lot of Chinese are coming to Thailand, buying a condo, buying a safe, buying some Thai gold or International gold, throwing the gold in the safe and then wandering back and forth as and when necessary. Maybe having some clothes or something in their condo so that they don't have to worry about coming through, having to pack before they leave, whatever. In a very real sense I never thought of it but it is kind of the Chinese version of the sort of plan B that you hear talked about in the western expat communities, not dissimilar at all. So I thought it was worth making a video on, something to kind of think about.
