Myanmar "Immigration Procedures Have Recently Been Simplified"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Myanmar Immigration. I don't generally discuss Immigration in the rest of Southeast Asia, but from time to time something will kind of draw my attention; I'll say yeah that's worth noting for folks because, especially with tourists who are coming through the region, they oftentimes will come into Thailand as an initial destination and then they will hop out to like Angkor Wat for example over in Cambodia or over to Myanmar for example the Chittagong Pagoda or something like this; they may want to go over check something out in Yangon. Again recently that has not been such a hot thing but it does happen.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Myanmar foreign tourist numbers picking up again. Quoting directly: "Inbound tourists must land by air in the largest city Yangon and Immigration procedures have recently been simplified. For example, a separate medical insurance policy is no longer required for foreigners who are fully vaccinated. The common Western view is that foreigners should avoid visiting Myanmar to deprive the military junta of funds. However, the alternative opinion is that International tourism provides sorely needed jobs and income to poverty stricken Myanmar nationals." Yeah I am always a pro jobs and income guy, that is kind of the way I look at it. All tourism kind of goes toward helping usually those on the lower strata of society. Not always, I mean hotel owners and things may be higher up the chain but especially like vendors and things like that, it always helps those folks.

But it is good to see that yeah if nothing else, they have gotten rid of the medical insurance policy associated with entering Myanmar so that's a major step in the right direction and who knows, events may play out wherein we may start seeing tourism pick back up in Myanmar in the months ahead. Hard to say; at least hopefully it may happen in the years ahead but we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
