Comparing US And Thai Immigration: Voluntary Departure?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing voluntary departure. For those who are unaware, yeah in a US Immigration context, if one for example goes to the United States and let's say you get to a checkpoint, US Customs and Border Protection, you have got a Tourist Visa, we see this rather frequently, you come in on a Tourist Visa but they think you actually intend to live in the United States, you can be cited as an intending immigrant without proper documentation; that's just one citation CBP can make. And they can give you the option to do what's called, they can give you the option to withdraw your request to come into the United States and voluntarily depart, similar to protocols here in Thailand.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News that's thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Ukrainian man arrested at Phuket Airport, charged for 114 days of overstay. Quoting directly: "Foreigners who voluntarily surrender for overstaying receive relatively lenient punishments. In addition to the daily fine, those who surrender for an overstay of more than 90 days but less than one year will be deported and blacklisted for one year." What that implies there is that if you voluntarily depart if you will, or voluntarily surrender is the terminology they use in this article, if you volunteer, if you basically of your own volition decide to leave the Kingdom, you may not necessarily be blacklisted and there may be different consequences. This is somewhat similar to the notion of voluntary departure as opposed to what is called ‘expedited removal’ from the United States you just basically leave, you turn around and leave whereas with expedited removal you could have a five year ban from reentry to the United States in the event that you are put through those proceedings.

So again, voluntary departure, similar concept both in the Thai Immigration System as well as the US Immigration System.
