US Travel Docs: Another Reason to Avoid "Visa Agents"

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing US Travel Docs again. For those who are unaware, US Travel Docs is a system wherein you have to denote one's address in order to get documentation sent out and at least here at the US Embassy in Thailand, as well as some of the other posts around this region, without going through this system one effectively cannot get in to an interview because you need documentation this system spits out and you need that documentation to get your interview.

I am bringing this up with respect to "Visa Agents" because we see a problem that comes up a lot and this is really another reason to avoid Visa Agents especially in a Tourist Visa context. We will often see folks that will have applied for a Tourist Visa with a Visa agent. Now generally speaking, we don't really assist very often with US Tourist Visas. If you want to contact us about a US Tourist Visa, we are happy to talk to you about it but by and large I don't really assist with US Tourist Visas, in my opinion, in most contexts. There are certain limited exceptions to this but in most situations I don't really think that a service provider adds any real value. In my opinion, you process a Tourist Visa application; you are either approved or denied on it. Most folks at least out of here especially where they have an American citizen or a lawful permanent resident as a significant other, they are going to get denied under Section 214b and I have made a number of videos on that topic on this channel.

The point of this video though pertains to the US Travel Doc system and what we will often see is someone will have applied through a Visa Agent and they will have gone through the US Travel Docs system and that Travel Docs system essentially attaches the passport number to that Travel Docs account. Then, if you get into a later case, it becomes very cumbersome to try to get into that account if you don't have access to it; if only the Visa Agent had access to that account it can result in a situation where an interview may not occur because you can't get into US Travel Docs to get your documentation spat out in order to get locked in for the interview.

So the reason I am making this video is just one more reason to in my opinion just avoid in general a Visa Agent so-called; just fake lawyers that claim to be to be Immigration Attorneys but aren't and use someone real or just do it on one's own. In the case of a Tourist Visa, at least you have access to your primary password and login details associated with US Travel Docs as failure to have that can have a real detrimental impact on a subsequent visa application down the road.
