Social Security Cards And US CR-1 And IR-1 Visas?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Social Security Cards and Social Security Numbers in the context of a CR-1 or an IR-1 Visa. This is a much simpler video than discussing this in the context of the K-1 Fiancé Visa or the K-3 Marriage Visa. Those are Non-immigrant Visas and generally speaking where a preliminary Social Security Number is issued, it's going to be issued as a result of employment authorization documentation.

But in the circumstances where someone enters the United States in Immigrant Visa status, be it CR-1 Conditional Resident, so Conditional Lawful Permanent Residence or IR-1 Immediate Relative which grants unconditional Lawful Permanent Residence in the United States, in either case a person's I-551, their permanent residence card or their I-551 stamp upon entry into the United States is basically their Lawful Permanent Residence. They are a Lawful Permanent Resident from entry in the US and generally speaking usually within about 6 weeks of arrival in the United States, a Social Security Number is issued as a matter of course.

Now for those that have issues getting their Social Security Number issued, generally speaking a trip down to a Social Security Office and an explanation that one is a Lawful Permanent Resident will result in that being remedied wherein basically a Social Security Number will be issued.

Long story short, it is different. There is no like employment authorization you have to go through that hoop you don't need to deal with that. Lawful Permanent Residents have the inherent right to work in the United States of America.
