K-3 Visa Cambodia: The DS-160

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the K-3 Marriage Visa specifically in the context of a Khmer spouse of an American citizen and specifically discussing this in the context of Consular processing through the US Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

So, one aspect of the process which is usually done digitally is what is called the DS-160. This is a form wherein the applicant has to upload certain information about themselves as well as identity documentation and information pertaining to their vital statistics as well as things like an address history and now, which has been added in recent months, information related to social media activity.

The DS-160 in many ways acts as sort of the informational focal point of an application for a K-3 Visa and the Adjudicating Consular Officer in those cases is going to be looking at the DS-160 heavily when scrutinizing information regarding the applicant's standing and the applicant's suitability for approval of a K-3 Visa. They are also going to be looking at it with respect to issues involving legal grounds of inadmissibility; so reasons for denying the application.

It should be noted it is never a good idea to provide any false information in one of these as one is filling it out notwithstanding the factors in the digital format, it is being filled out under penalty of perjury so keep that in mind. Secondly, the thing to keep in mind with respect to these forms is it is very different from documentation pertaining to an ability to financially support one's K-3 spouse; so this doesn't have anything to do with finances. This documentation is really focused on again information pertaining to Identity and vital statistics of the Khmer applicant for a K-3 Visa processing through the US Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
