K-3, CR-1, and IR-1 Visas in Light of Recent Trump Policies?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing CR-1 and IR-1 Immigrant Spouse Visas in light of recent policies which have been elucidated by the Trump Administration. Let me just jump in here. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Associated Press, that's apnews.com, the article is titled: Trump Administration is reviewing all 55 million foreigners with US Visas for any Violations. Quoting directly: "The Trump Administration said Thursday it is reviewing more than 55 million people who have valid US Visas for any violations that could lead to deportation, part of a growing Crackdown on foreigners who are permitted to be in the United States. In a written answer to a question from the Associated Press, the State Department" - it is important to note that it is the State Department saying this, it is not, to the best of my knowledge, the Department of Homeland Security. That said, the State Department, it's not to be dismissed that it State saying this, but DHS is the one ultimately responsible for enforcement of Immigration protocols in the United States. So this is State saying it but it's going to be DHS that probably implements this policy, so just keep that in mind. Quoting further: "said all US Visa holders, which can include tourists from many countries, are subject to "continuous vetting" with an eye toward any indication they could be ineligible for permission to enter or stay in the United States. Should such information be found, the Visa will be revoked, and if the Visa holder is in the United States, he or she would be subject to deportation." So again, not the greatest of news for those who are immigrants.
To be clear look, I am a believer in robust immigration enforcement especially along our borders, but I do believe that lawful immigration is one of the cornerstones of the American experience and the American experiment if you will, and I think immigration is a good thing, lawful immigration is a good thing overall for the country. That said, I do understand that in light of the last roughly 5, 6, 7, 8 years where we have had serious concerns along the border, there are some serious needs for enforcement to be undertaken in a rigorous manner. So while I understand where the Administration is coming from, I also understand the position of immigrants who are lawfully in America and being overly intrusive into lawful immigrants' lives in my opinion is unwarranted.
That being said, where exactly the line is at is sort of a difficult thing and this Administration, you have to remember, came in to power in my opinion largely because of the immigration issue. At the end of the day, I would say that's probably what put them over the top in terms of both the popular and electoral vote. People are genuinely concerned about immigration policy of and in the United States. So again this more robust enforcement is something I doubt we will see abate any time soon.
