K-1 Visas: Entry To The USA And Secondary Inspection?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Secondary Inspection in the event of arrival in the United States in K-1 Visa status. So we are talking about fiancées of US citizens travelling to the USA on a K-1 Fiancée Visa.

Understand, once you arrive in the United States you have got to go through a checkpoint, US Customs and Border Protection checkpoint, to be lawfully admitted into the USA in K-1 Visa status. Now something to bear in mind is there is this thing called Secondary Inspection. What is that? It's when Immigration pulls you out of the line, pulls you off the window if you will, and they maybe take you to another window alone or they may take you into a back room and process you there. Why are they doing this? Well if it's your first time entering the United States and you are on a K-1 Visa, don't be alarmed. They may just be doing it because there are slightly more procedure that goes into admitting somebody for the first time in their K-1, and they may just not want to do it on the line. They may want to pull that person over and process them through sort of off the line if you will. Again, for a variety of different reasons; it may save time; they don't want to clog up the lines essentially. There could be all kinds of reasons for this.

There are times when people do get pulled in Secondary Inspection because they are being interrogated effectively. People are looking into them; they want to ascertain whether or not they really are legal. Long story short, that's a situation that happens but we are not really talking about it here. What we are talking about is somebody who has never been in the United States, they're coming for the first time, they're coming through on a K-1. Going into Secondary generally speaking, in a vast majority of cases where I have seen that occur is not something to worry about. They are just basically doing it out of a matter of wanting to efficiently process that person into the United States.
