K-1 Visa Thailand: The DS-160

Transcript of the above video:

The title of this video suggests we are talking about K-1 Fiancée Visas, specifically from Thailand.

For those of you who are watching this video and looking for some broad information I am talking about this in the context of an American citizen specifically bringing in a Thai fiancée from Thailand, processing through the US Embassy here in Bangkok. We have other videos on these topics which are more general. This might not be your video if you are not specifically looking at information for Thais and Thailand and dealing with the DS-160.

For those who are unaware, throughout the process of the K-1 Fiancée Visa, it is sort of a multi-phased process. You are dealing with Department of Homeland Security initially; various forms issued by them.  Thereafter you are dealing with the National Visa Center and finally you are dealing with processing at the US Embassy here in Bangkok.

One of the key factors in dealing with a K-1 Fiancée Visa specifically in the application process, is the DS-160. This document, to many seems very redundant because it basically goes over a lot of information that has previously been provided but it has to be filled out; it has to be dealt with. Generally speaking, our clients find that it is kind of annoying to deal with based on how you have to fill it out online. You have got to get online, you have got to punch in your information and then you have got to upload it digitally. Once the digital upload is complete then further processing can continue. In the last 18 months, the DS-160 has required more information than previously, for example things pertaining to social media, but it is mostly information one would think would be relevant in an application to bring someone to the United States, things like where they going to stay who they are staying with etc etc. It should not be confused with documentation pertaining to an ability to financially support a fiancée in the United States; there is different documentation which relates to that.

The DS-160 is primarily a document related to vital statistics. It is information related to one's identity information as well as one's vital statistics: birthdate, height and weight; that kind of thing. Documentation information, documentation numbers, address history is often times involved in the DS-160. So it is basically sort of Department of State's main form for dealing with the intake information associated with an applicant for a K-1 Fiancée Visa from Thailand.
