Documentation Issues for K-1 Visas from Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing K-1 Fiancé Visas. We are specifically discussing the supporting documentation associated with the K-1 Fiancé Visa. So understand, there are various documentation: ID documents, Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, things like divorce decrees; in Thailand name changes are oftentimes pretty ubiquitous.
All of these documents, people will ask, "Hey do we have to send in originals?" and there used to be publications that would say "yeah you need to send in originals." That ain't a great idea. There is a way to deal with documentation, I mean notably there are certain Visa categories now you can upload online. Frankly I don't like dealing with online processing for a variety of different reasons. I like having a paper file on file so you can essentially, well you can hold that Government Agency accountable in a very real sense. It doesn't just sort of disappear down the memory hole. Not that particularly happens with any great regularity but yes I have seen the Immigration apparatus lose things over time. So in my opinion, hard copies are always better or at least you should have a hard copy and a soft copy for purposes of just covering all bases. But long story short, documentation, yeah with rare exceptions you are not going to be required to provide original documentation when processing.
Now we do sometimes see situations where the US Embassy here in Bangkok may ask to see an original of something, most notably it is usually for a Thai Fiancé, they want to see some original document out there. But for the most part, copies are going to work unless you specifically are asked for an original and then at that point, go ahead and provide it.
