Contact Your Attorney BEFORE Contacting USCIS

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing those who have an Attorney for the US Immigration process and we are discussing correspondence with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service.

A situation that has popped up on my radar here lately has been folks who are getting rather exasperated with the overall situation involving US Immigration and they are contacting, in this case USCIS for themselves.

Let me just state sort of unequivocally, this is not a good idea. If you have an Attorney, let your Attorney do their job. If you have an issue, contact them first and then have them deal with USCIS for you if it is warranted. Unfortunately, in some circumstances and I do understand it is frustrating, it is not particularly warranted to contact USCIS, but it may be. So it is a good idea to contact your Attorney first and here is the reason for this. You may inadvertently cause yourself problems that otherwise would not have arisen if you would have contacted your Attorney before contacting USCIS because in certain cases you may inadvertently disclose something that maybe detrimental to your case. I am not saying you are lying about something going on in your case, but you may inadvertently disclose something that may have an impact on the way in which they process the case or they may want to do something differently with the case and it could further delay the case. I am not trying to throw out fact patterns here, I am just trying to talk about this in a general manner.

Long story short, if you have an Attorney and they are assisting you and representing you before USCIS, I recommend strongly you contact them before you contact USCIS directly.
