The Whole Package: A Path to Citizenship in Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Citizenship but we are discussing it in the overarching context of this notion of the Whole Package.

As I have noted in other videos, I had sort of an epiphany regarding this and I know that seems rather strange but lawyers can be very task-oriented. It is easy to get one's blinders on. I have gone into that in other videos and if you are watching this for the first time, I would urge you there is a hashtag that we have used, "The Whole Package", to go ahead and check out our earlier videos on this overarching topic.

Long story short, yes it is possible to become a Thai citizen but as the song says “the road is long". If you get your ducks in a row at the outset, if you get for example if you are self-employed, if you get your business set up here in Thailand, get your lifestyle situation set up in such a way and your Work Permits and visas in such a way that sort of all your ducks are in a row from the beginning, it is simply a matter of remaining on that track for specified periods of time. You will kind of hit these watershed moments along the way, these important points along the path wherein you may need to take some active steps in order to get over the next hurdle in order to get to the next thing you need to get to, for example Permanent Residence as we have done a video on, but ultimately for some folks the end of that path may be Citizenship here and I can say as a naturalized Thai citizen myself, it is a substantial benefit. Yes it has been cumbersome. It is a complex process and you need to deal with things up front when you are starting out in such a way that you are in a good position, you are in an advantageous position to be able to gain enjoyment in a certain benefits including Citizenship or applying for citizenship or Residence down the road.

So long story short, if you get your situation set up well at the beginning, it will pay off majorly down the road.
