Who Should Retire in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

The question posed in this video is: "Who should retire in Thailand?" I would say the answer is “retirees”; frankly anybody who wants to. If you want to come, there are a number of videos out there and they are not quite, our videos I do understand they are pretty dry; they are pretty on a specific topic, it is usually of a legal nature and we kind of keep to that but I do see a number of videos out there: "Is Thailand right for you to retire in, etc., etc.?" And maybe I am a little bit less, I don't know, emotional on this topic because I just sort of view it as a legal hypothesis but basically anybody. If you feel like you want to retire in Thailand I think Thailand will welcome you with open arms.

Now, you have got certain financial requirements; we have discussed that in other videos. Generally speaking 800,000 Baht in a Thai Bank Account or 65,000 Baht per month in some sort of pension or just income, retirement income. We are seeing possible future requirements regarding insurance coming down the pike especially starting the 4th quarter of this year so that that may sort of change people's minds. But, as we have discussed in other videos, there are other options. The O Retirement Visa may be an option for many folks so that whole insurance requirement may not be the overwhelming or deal breaking kind of thing that a lot of people think it might be.

So yeah if you really like Thailand and you meet the age requirement, 50 or older and you meet the financial requirements and you want to come to Thailand and retire I don't think there is anybody that Thailand would really turn away who meets the requirements. And as I have discussed in other videos, we have seen a lot of downturn in the tourism sector especially and as we see the Baht weakening, it is clear to me that I think there is going to be major paradigm shifts especially regarding retirees. Quite frankly I think retirees probably didn't get treated as well as they should have over the past roughly five years especially with respect to Immigration Policy. Hopefully, because the circumstances are what they are, we will see Immigration Policy makers taking retirees' specific concerns into account when setting Immigration policy moving forward.
