Which Thai Visa Categories Require Insurance Coverage?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are asking the question which Thai Visa categories require insurance coverage. I have talked about this in the context of Retirement Visas quite a great deal but I was reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, and I thought that it kind of summed up where things stood on this issue so I decided to quote it here. The article is titled: Thai Immigration updates: November 2022 under the subheading: Is Thailand still requiring any visitors and expats to have ongoing medical insurance to renew or extend their visas?
Quoting directly: "For most Visa categories, the requirement to have medical insurance has disappeared as Thailand decided to compete with neighbors such as Cambodia and Vietnam with similarly liberalized entry rules to boost their economies but there are Thai exceptions. Applicants at Thai Embassies abroad for a specifically related to Retirement will require comprehensive Health policy which will need to be renewed at extension time in Thai Immigration if the Visa is O-A category but not O." Quoting further: "The other visas currently requiring ongoing medical insurance are O-X 10 year Retirement Visas and 10 year Long Term Residence Visa." LTR, long-term Residence Visa, so-called residence visa as we have discussed in other videos; does not actually provide residence.
But yeah, you're looking at the LTR, technically speaking the O-X Retirement Visa but I haven't in practice seen one of those processed. Then you are looking at the O-A, the O-A Retirements Visa. Again not the O Retirement Visa, the O Retirement Visa does not require insurance coverage. So the thing to take away from this video is yes there are still visas that require insurance coverage in order for the visa to be issued and for one to be able to travel and maintain lawful status here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
