When Should I Extend My Thai Visa?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Visa extensions. The question posed is: "When should I extend it?" and the reason for the question, I get this sort of a lot; “when exactly do I need to prep to get down there to extend the Visa?”

Now with Thai Business Visas, you are talking about kind of a different kettle of fish because there is a lot of supporting documentation that goes into that. We have a number of clients who we assist with Thai Business Visas here in our office. Quite honestly, we start working on those, a lot of the application we start on almost 3 months out. Now if you are dealing with something like a Thai O Retirement Visa for example and you are on an extension here in Thailand, the general rule of thumb is you can't extend it prior to 30 days prior to the expiration of the underlying status, and obviously you can't let it expire and expect to extend. So, there is sort of a 30-day window in which to renew or re-extend a present Visa.

Now again, circumstances may warrant that you prepare more things further out in advance before even dealing with that 30-day window, kind of akin to the way the Permanent Residence window opens only once a year but you don't want to start working on your Permanent Residence application after they announce the window is open because sometimes they only give you like a few weeks. You want to be preparing for that long before that window opens up, very similar to a visa extension, Yeah basically you have this sort of 30-day window between expiration and the 30-day mark to go ahead and apply for that renewal.
