What Is a "Retirement Hotel" in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are posing the question, "What is a Retirement Hotel in Thailand?" Let me be clear, "hotel" maybe a little bit of a misnomer, I will get into that a minute but you get the concept. I was thinking of this after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Every Cloud has a Silver Lining. Quoting directly: "Mr. Stocks said the model for a Retirement Hotel means extra services, such as around-the-clock qualified nurses and staff who are trained to serve the elderly. Sunshine's properties have received positive feedback from long-stay guests as they can stay and socialize with people their age, he said."

So yeah, I have seen a number of these. You will see them a lot down in sort of the beach areas, the beachfront areas. Some of them are set up as condos where you can actually buy your room but then yeah they do have around-the-clock nurse on hand. Oftentimes I have found that they are built with very strategic access, like it is built with an almost eye toward quick access, immediate access to a hospital facility. On top of that quite frankly, Thai service staff that work in the Hospitality Industry are really well suited to this too because they are very much a very caring people and when you have elderly folks that come here to retire, these Retirement Hotel very much kind of combine the sort of one aspect being like a condo or serviced apartment but sort of combined with "hey we have this extra amenity of around-the-clock healthcare provider and sort of inbuilt access to medical facilities”. It is sort of old baked in if you will. And as I said, it may not necessarily be a hotel in the sense that you rent. There may be a setup and I have seen in numerous buildings set up this way, that are set up like condos. You can actually buy your unit and stay there and you will be sorted out.

So yeah this is sort of a model of the way certain types of real estate is run especially in the resort areas here in Thailand and I have heard a lot of positive feedback from many different people about these kind of facilities.
