As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai O Marriage Visas and what happens when a Thai spouse dies. Well unfortunately, and it really is sad, we have dealt with these before, we dealt with one recently, it's really not a fun experience as usually it has been our experience, the Thai spouse is usually a little bit younger and there is usually an illness at play as there was in this recent case, a really sad deal. But long story short, there are Immigration ramifications to that. Quite frankly, as harsh as it sounds the moment that a Thai spouse passes away, the Thai O Visa effectively becomes extinguished. Now on its face, the Visa is valid so you don't like automatically go into overstay just because one's spouse passes away but it is one of the reasons why where possible, I try to encourage folks to go to the Thai O Retirement Visa rather than the O Marriage Visa for this exact reason which is it if something was to happen you are not sitting around, at the same time you are dealing with all the consternation that you can't even imagine, all the consternation associated with losing a loved one, you are also sitting around thinking about Thai Immigration junk. 

So long story short, my opinion is that it has to be dealt with but it is my opinion that if you can do it and some folks can't, it is not overly convenient for them, if you can do it and you are retirement age it is probably better to do an O Retirement Visa. Again, it is circumstantially dependent. If you are looking to work in Thailand, a Marriage Visa can support that and it just is what it is but we have helped folks, we have found solutions for those problems dealing with an O Retirement Visa based on marriage to a Thai spouse in the event that unfortunately the Thai spouse passes away.
