Visas for Derivative Spouses of Retirees in Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing derivative spousal visas for the spouses of retirees.

What are we talking about here? Primarily where we see this come up is where you have a couple, and it is usually the husband but it could be either party, and one of them one of the members of the couple is a retiree. They are over the age of 50, they meet the criteria under Thai Retirement Visa regulations to be on a Retirement Visa, but, what if the other party to the marriage is not of age, is not over the age of 50; that is mostly where we deal with this, or does not meet the requirements for Retirement Visa status in their own right. It may and I stress “may” as this is a discretionary matter, it requires a favorable exercise in discretion on the part of a Thai Immigration Officer, but it may be possible videos under certain circumstances to obtain what is called a derivative spouse visa. That is the spouse of a retiree in Thailand. We have done a number of videos on this channel discussing this. Probably go to our Search Function, search for “derivative spouse”; I will try to put a link in to the description below on prior videos we have done on this.

Long story short, we have done some videos before I decided to make this one. I did an update a little bit because a lot of people have been asking me about it.  Yes it may, I stress may be possible to obtain a derivative spouse visa for the spouse of a retiree but it is going to be based on a favorable exercise in discretion. This is not something that is set more solidly in stone with respect to the Retirement Visa regulations. It is going to require some discretion exercise on the part of the Thai Immigration Officer. So long story short, yes it is possible but it may not be possible depending on the specific facts of a given case.

So the thing to take away from this video, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional if you are in one of these circumstances and gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed for a spouse of a retiree here in Thailand.
