A Visa For Parents Of Foreign Children In Thai Schools?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing visas for parents of children in Thai schools. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Proposal for visas for parents of children at International schools, with criminal checks. Quoting directly: "Provincial Officials are hoping to have a Visa especially for parents of children enrolled at International schools, but with criminal background checks in order to prevent parents with criminal records from being approved to stay in the country." They go into greater detail on that but long story short, we have discussed this in other videos. There is a Visa in theory possible for the guardian of a child attending a Thai school. So if you are foreign national, you can get a Visa by dint of being a guardian of a child attending a Thai school.
Bear in mind, as they go into in that article as well, bear in mind this is kind of an Ad Hoc visa. This is basically issued under the O miscellaneous category which means that Immigration Officers have a great deal of discretion in terms of making determinations on approval. More to the point, it doesn't have any set criteria associated with it per se; it is very much an Ad Hoc visa. As they discussed in that article, they have kind of proposed "hey, can you go ahead and create a subcategory probably not dissimilar from the O or the O-A Retirement Visa insofar as it is part of the miscellaneous category but it does have its own set of criteria that have been set by Thai Immigration here internally for obtainment of an actual Visa as opposed to just kind of an Ad Hoc sort of setup with regard to Retirement Visas. Again that same framework being applied in a Guardian Visa context for those who are bringing their children into Thai schools.
Now whether or not this will actually be promulgated remains to be seen, but we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as that situation evolves.
