Timing of 90 Day Reporting in Thailand
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing timing of 90-day reporting in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent, actually it was an email sent to me so quoting directly: "FYI when you next address the topic of 90-day reporting, I re-entered Thailand on 28th of May 2023 on my Retirement O Visa with re-entry permit. I received an email TM47 notification dated 26/6/23 requiring me to file by July 11, '23. This date is 90 days after my previous 90-day report made before I left Thailand for a few days. The available information says that the period starts at 0 days when one enters the country, I therefore assume that the June 6th or 20/6/23 is incorrect and I am ignoring it; so the message sent by the automated system."
Again, this is why this automated system isn't so great and this is because, look it's not going to be able to track when people come and go automatically, I mean not yet. I think it would take quite a little while before it had that capability and quite honestly it would creep me out if it did because it would be like some sort of Orwellian surveillance machine, but okay, leave that aside. Yeah the system as it is now it just simply does not have the capability to anticipate people coming in and out of the country and it is definitely not sort of hooked together to your personal passport number or something so that when you arrive through the Immigration checkpoint it sort of resets the system, no that's not how it works.
The fact of the matter is yes it does restart the clock for 90-day reporting when you leave the country. So if you come into Thailand, you have a Non-Immigrant for example as that person stated an O Retirement Visa, and you go ahead and let's say you leave, you have a re-entry permit, you leave after call it 15 days, well when you return 5 days later your 90-day reporting resets so you have to report. It is reporting 90 days in the Kingdom, it is not 90 days from the Visa, it's 90 days just your physical presence in the Kingdom, that is the way to look at 90-day reporting here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
