"Tightening Of The Rules" For Thai Visa Extension?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing tightening of the rules regarding Thai Visa Extensions. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: What Thailand's expats can expect from the new government. Quoting directly, and I urge those who are watching this video, check out that article in detail, I'm going to put a small excerpt here. Quote: "Expats on annual extensions can expect to see tightening of the rules regarding cash deposits and comprehensive medical insurance as anticipated recently by Deputy National Police Chief Surachate Hakparn, that is Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn whom we have discussed on this channel at length in many, many times videos going back to the time when he was the Head of Thai Immigration. As noted in that article, he's now the Deputy Head of the National Police Chief and as we have discussed in other videos, there is a lot of speculation right now about the possibility that we will see major changes to the rules regarding Thai Visa Extensions, specifically that we will see a lot of tightening. Up to this point, well I won't say it has been lax, since we have gone through again during Surachate Hakparn's tenure as the Head of Thai Immigration Police we saw a great deal of tightening and scrutiny associated with specifically Retirement Visas at that time.
I think that there is some evidence to indicate at least as of the time of this video that at some point in the forthcoming months, possibly the next year or so, we could see some changes with regards to Thai Immigration matters. There could be some reforms with regard to the rules associated with maintaining Long-Term Visa status here in Thailand.
Now that said, is the sky falling? Is this time for major alarm? No it's not. As I have discussed in other videos, there is ample reason to believe that certain things like "grandfathering" will occur insofar as folks that are already in the system are likely to be able to continue in the system under prior terms. At the same time, nothing has actually been promulgated in terms of actual legal changes or regulatory changes to any of the Immigration System. So while there is reason to speculate that we could see changes in the near future, as of now there is nothing concrete to suggest that this will be happening in the very near future. Now that said, we will keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
