Is There Any Risk of the Thai Retirement Visa Process Changing?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Retirement Visas. Specifically, I have had a lot of questions recently of people asking me "hey, do you think it is possible that this Thai Retirement Visa process, just the whole overall modus operandi of obtaining a Thai Retirement Visa, do you think that's going to change? Do you think we are going to see major changes with regard to that overall system?
My instinct or maybe my experience and just my insight in having dealt with this tells me probably not. But every time I think that, it seems like immediately thereafter there is some massive sea change. So you never know. If you would have asked me at the beginning of 2020 what the forthcoming year was going to look like, I would have said “I don't see any real problems on the horizon”. Then meanwhile, one of the biggest black swans to ever hit Thailand or America or the world, occurred within about 90 days of me hypothetically having said that.
The long story short and the purpose of this video is do I think that there is going to be major changes in the Retirement Visa apparatus. Honestly not really. I don't really think that they are going to want to do a major overhaul of Thai Retirement Visas. If anything, there may be some cosmetic changes; there may be some changes to the insurance requirements. Yes, I know there are a lot of folks out there that are very concerned about the insurance as it pertains to the O Retirement Visa insofar as it doesn't pertain in any way to the O Retirement Visa. Do I think that is going to change? It is possible but I don't think it is very likely going into 2023 especially in the early part of 2023. I don't think anybody wants to really implement that massive of an overhaul, something that will change the overall system that much. So no, I think it is pretty unlikely going into 2023, I think the overall process of getting a Retirement Visa will look largely the same.
Now will there be heightened scrutiny on documentation, will there be heightened enforcement of requirements? Possibly but that is not a change to the process, that is just a change in terms of the enforcement mechanisms used in association with that process.
