Thai Retirement Visas Only Available for Those Aged 50 to 70?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Retirement Visas and the question posed is: "Can only those between 50 and 70 obtain a Retirement Visa here in Thailand?"
I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "Just remember, the Thai Authorities consider retirement from 50 to 70 years old."
Not true, not true at all. That is not at all how they see Retirement Visas. In fact, I have seen many people maintain Retirement Visas past 70 years old. That is a fact, we have done them this week, since the time of this video. We have assisted people in extending their Retirement Visa status here in Thailand who are over 70. As we have discussed in other videos and we will get into right now, Insurance may be a component with an O-A Retirement Visa. Please note that is not the same as an O Retirement Visa, but insurance may be a component of an O-A Retirement Visa and Insurance Companies may be unwilling to insure somebody who is 70 or older, or even younger if they have pre-existing conditions. That is not necessarily going to exclude those folks from being able to get some kind of Retirement Visa here in Thailand specifically the O Retirement Visa, as we have discussed in other videos does not have an insurance requirement. So again the issues associated with the sort of tangential age limit which emanates from the requirement of insurance, that is just simply not there with the O Retirement Visa.
In point of fact, I have actually talked with Immigration Officers in the past and they have said the reason for the O Retirement Visa is precisely for folks who get rather old and can no longer be covered by insurance but they have spent the predominant part of their later life in Thailand, it is not particularly fair to those folks to just deport them if they turn 70, that's not the way the system works here. So in point of fact, and getting to that comment, no 50 to 70 is not the “sweet” spot, it is not the "magic" spot to be able to get a Retirement Visa. It is very possible to get a Retirement Visa after the age of 70 here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
