Thai Retirement Visa Insurance Requirements Increasing Soon

Transcript of the video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the insurance requirements associated with Thai Retirement Visas and whether or not those are going to be on the increase here coming soon. September this year, 2022, is something of a red letter month with respect to Thai Immigration Policy for a number of different reasons most notably the Long Term Residence Visa is coming into play as well as changes to Thai Retirement Visa policies associated with insurance for the O-A Retirement Visa. Let me repeat that, O-A Retirement Visa, we are not talking about an O Retirement Visa in this video, we are talking about O-A Retirement Visas.

So the reason I thought of making this video is I was reading a recent article in the Pattaya Mail, that's pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thailand Immigration holidays upcoming, insurance requirements alert. Quoting directly and we are going to quote a small excerpt from this but I do urge folks who are watching this video, go read that article in detail, there's a lot of information in there. Quoting directly: "September 1 is an important date for upcoming Immigration news. All those applying for the O-A retirement Visa at Thai Embassies - or annually extending at Thai Immigration - will need general Health Insurance of at least US$100,000 or over 3 million Baht." Quoting further: "Most Thai Embassies have already implemented the rule but Thai Immigration Offices are still using the previous formula of 400,000 Baht (inpatient) and 40,000 Baht (outpatient)." Now again, as we have discussed going back darn near a year ago, they announced that these  rules were going to change and that this requirement was going to go up, again as noted in that article to 3 million Baht dollars or roughly US$100,000 in coverage. Now you have the option of either getting insurance coverage or "self-insuring" by putting 3 million Baht in a Thai bank account and using that as proof of an ability to ensure oneself so it depends on your circumstances.

But again this is a major change we are looking to see here in roughly a month from the time of this video. I suspect this will have major implications for many retirees here in Thailand. Again we are talking about the O-A Retirement Visa, we are not discussing the O Retirement Visa as the O Retirement Visa does not presently have insurance requirements at this time.
