Thai Retirement Visa Holders Sit Calmly Amidst Tourist Visa Tension?
Transcript of the above video:
So this video is really kind of aimed at the retiree community, especially in expat land out there in Thailand. Look, there has been a lot of talk the last week or so about all kinds of hoopla surrounding visas, announcements that Border Runs aren't any longer a thing, which really isn't the case; that was kind of a misnomer. We were simply talking about policies that pre-existed the last week, it's not any big change. Meanwhile, there has been a lot of talk about truncation of Visa Extension status which primarily pertains to those in Visa Exemption status.
The long and the short of it, this is stuff we are talking about with regard to true tourists in Thailand, it does not pertain to retirees. Those holding long-term Non-immigrant Visas like the O Retirement Visa or the O-A Retirement Visa, you are sitting pretty. If you have got your Visa Extension, you have all your ducks in a row with regard to the financial requirements associated therewith, I wouldn't put a great deal of attention on all of this talk currently pertaining to Thai Immigration especially as it pertains to short-term extensions as well as Border Runs, because quite frankly, for retirees it just doesn't apply to you. And at the end of the day, I'm kind of of the opinion that if you have a Retirement Visa in Thailand, maybe only wade into the ongoing discussion on Immigration and Immigration policy here in Thailand about a month before, at max, you need to extend your status, because otherwise you may just be letting yourself in for a whole just kind of misery insofar as just following all of this news about immigration and, yeah it can be upsetting insofar as it may have a negative impact on certain groups, but as is the case in this situation involving Tourist Visa status, Exemption status, the possibility of extension, the possibility of Border Run and maintaining longer status based on a Border Run, again none of that really pertains to retirees here in Thailand.
For that reason, I think it would probably be in those folks' best interest to just sit on the sidelines calmly and just at best watch everybody else kind of freak out as it pertains to their situations because for retirees here in Thailand, it just isn't an issue, and you are only letting yourself in for a world of worry by sitting around following it in detail, unless you enjoy that sort of thing, and if you do, I don't know what to do for you. Maybe you're one of the main followers of this channel because I do follow Immigration that closely. But that said, as you can probably tell from my demeanour in some of these videos, it drives me crazy from time to time.
So the thing to take away from this video for retirees here in Thailand at the moment, notwithstanding the hoopla while out there about Immigration Policy, you folks seem to be in a pretty good position overall as far as I can see it.
