Thai Immigration's TM30 Address Reporting in 2026?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the TM30 in the context of Thai Immigration. What are we talking about with regard to the TM30? I haven't actually talked about this in a while so it's worth bringing up.
Yeah, the TM30 is an address reporting form that Thai Immigration requires. This thing became the source of a lot of contention back in about 2017-18 when it was sort of reintroduced. I talked about it at the time. "Big Joke" - Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn who was a General in the Thai Immigration Police rose to the rank of the Head of Thai Immigration Police - actually made a number of changes and one of the things he brought back was TM30 address reporting. Basically, you have to report your address if you're living in Thailand and if you change your address you have to report that as well; in the past, it was far more onerous. I made videos regarding the TM28 and then the creation of the TM27 to effectively destroy the TM28 because it was just such; in theory, it required people to do a new TM30 and TM28 every time they would spend one night in Pattaya in theory. It was really, really onerous; it was kind of ridiculous. It was ultimately through regulation they created the TM27 and obviated the need for the TM28. Their interpretation of the law was a little odd but under the circumstances, where you see how it was playing out, it made a lot of sense.
That being said, I don't think a lot of TM30 policy is going to change going into 2026. I read in some recent comments, there were people that were like going after me because I've made valid warnings about the LTR especially regarding the LTR and how taxes are going to be assessed to LTR Visa holders, which we are going to find out about that in 2026, likely in 2027 more in earnest, but we are coming up on a 5 year anniversary on some of the folks that got the first LTR, we are going to see if they have any kind of issues with regard to - I think that there's a tax trap in here with regard to the LTR. I talked about it at length I don't want to talk about it too much further as the main topic of this video is TM30, which the reason I bring it up, there was somebody talking about how I'm not a huge fan of the LTR or the DTV because I can't get on the gravy train for TM30 and also 90-day reports. There is no gravy train in TM30s and 90-day reports. We don't make any money off of that. We do those things as a courtesy for clients or where we are processing a case and a TM30 is one of the components of the visa application, especially in terms of visa extensions be it Business Visa extensions, O Visa extensions, whatever. Yeah, we have to process those, but on their own, TM30 is not some big money maker. In fact, one of the reasons I made this channel and talked about some of the things I have talked about is because I was never going to make any money on it and they were all questions that were constantly being put to us by email or on the phone and I just kept repeating myself, so I started making videos on it. At the end of the day I haven't ever regretted that. I don't understand why there are people out there that want to comment super negatively on me because I don't know, I have a business I want to promote, but I'm putting a free content that I make no money off YouTube, or their algorithms or anything else. I just put this stuff out there for folks to take it or leave it; hopefully it's useful to people.
But yeah, long story short, TM30 looks like it's still going to be a requirement in 2026 especially for visa extensions; I don't think that's going to change any. That being said, we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
