Thai Immigration "Tightening Up"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Immigration "tightening up" and as I discussed in other videos recently, I have said that I think that this is going to happen both in the immediate term and by immediate term, I am filming this right before the APEC Summit is coming online here in Thailand so Immigration protocols are really tight right now because of security issues. But I also think compared to the last couple of years, we are definitely going to see the paradigm in Thai Immigration shifting and it is going to be going back to what it was prior to all of this happening at the end of quarter one in 2020.
So prior to the Emergency Decree March of 2020 we had a system. Then we had the Emergency Decree, we had a very different system and it differed almost from day to day. Then the Emergency Decree was rescinded and now we are sitting here back to what we had and we are kind of reverting back to that framework of thinking.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Immigration ramps up checks on foreigners. Quoting directly: "The Thai Immigration Bureau (IB) is tightening up security across all international airports in the country ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, (APEC) which takes place later this week." Yeah, okay so that is the immediate term where we are seeing this Immigration stuff, they are kind of clamping down in the immediate term. Quoting further: "IB Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Pakphumpipat Sajjapan, said on Sunday authorities are taking a closer look at foreign arrivals particularly those who may pose a security threat to the Summit. Since the start of October," this is key, "since the start of October, authorities have barred over 2,000 individuals from entering Thailand." Well that's coincides with the end of the Emergency Decree.
So again, to me this is just one more sort of data point if you will that shows the general direction in which this is heading and yeah we are going back to something of a stricter Thai Immigration. Now obviously, I am not talking about these issues for Tourists. Tourists as we know they have already created the 45-day Visa exemption so if you are from one of the countries that got a Visa Exemption, instead of getting 30 days, all throughout high season you are going to get 45 days when you come in. They have also made it when you come in. They have also made it very clear that they want to encourage tourists here. They are even doing an online extension, visa extension service at least here in Bangkok for now, again to encourage tourists. What we are talking about here is with respect to people that are staying here long-term, people that are living here in non-immigrant status, yeah I think it is safe to presume we are kind of going back to what we were looking at prior to quarter one of 2020.
