Thai Immigration: The Only Constant Is Change

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing just in a general sense, the kind of ever-changing nature of Thai Immigration. I am making this video because people will get a kind of a wrong-headed thinking about the way both Immigration Law works, both in a philosophical context as well as a practical context. The Law is subject to change which doesn't happen all that often but the regulatory structure which underpins the Law, oftentimes does change with some degree of frequency. Then on top of it, the practical application of said Law will often change rather frequently; this is not an uncommon thing to see here in Thailand. We have done many, many videos talking about changes within the Thai Retirement Visa category, just that one category, for example the change over from no longer allowing Income Affidavits where at one time that was a pretty much given that it was a routine thing. Many countries now no longer provide that service; Thailand no longer allows it, depending on your nationality.

So again the thing to take away from this video and to understand is you shouldn't really look at it like a fixed thing in terms of both the letter of the Law as well as how it's going to be applied. At the same time and I really want to be clear on this, for folks that watch a lot of these videos and keep up with this stuff, I think it's a good idea to keep up with it as an expat. I do not think it's a good idea to overly worry yourself about the ever-changing nature of Immigration. Just understand that maybe from one year to the next there's going to be an extra document associated for example with an extension or there may be a different procedure of protocol from one time period to another. Again, these are things that will change but it is not something to be overly concerned about and to worry yourself to death about here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
