Should We Call the DTV the Digital Thailand Visa?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the DTV, the Destination Thailand Visa. And I'm asking the question, should we just refer to this thing as the Digital Thailand Visa. And why do I say that?

Well look, as I have discussed in a number of other videos, it appears to me that Thailand definitely is rolling out a new tax protocol. Now there are those out there, especially among the foreign tax stamp-pimp community who seem hell-bent on coming in here, notwithstanding the restrictions on foreigners engaging in professions in Thailand reserved for Thais, seem to think that it's their right somehow to come here to Thailand and advise people here in Thailand regarding Thai Tax Law. That is not their position, nor should they be doing that.

That being said, as I see it, it looks to me that associated with this Destination Thailand Visa, they are going to end up rolling out some sort of protocol - I don't know exactly how it's going to look – that is going to interact with the Immigration apparatus and the Revenue Department apparatus to ascertain how long people are in Thailand for purposes of possible assessment or finding of liability with regard to taxation. Now again, as we have discussed in other videos, with the rollout of the Digital TM6 by Thai Immigration, they have effectively pushed this back at least till the back end of this year; I'm hoping it never comes to fruition. But the point of this video is that yeah effectively, I think moving forward, the way to look at the Destination Thailand Visa is literally as a Digital Visa, part of an overarching tax protocol wherein you utilize this with your Smartphone to enter and exit Thailand. If you go over 180 days depending again on your circumstances like have you had income etc., you may owe tax in Thailand. But the way to think of this in my mind moving forward, is less from a traditional sort of Visas and Immigration standpoint and more from a protocol standpoint, what you are dealing with here is travel documentation and lawful status but also assessment of tax liability here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
