Should Thailand "Overhaul Short-Term Tourist" Visas?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing whether or not Thailand should overhaul the short-term Tourism Visa possibilities for those who are looking to come to Thailand on a vacation. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thai Immigration policy: shape of things to come. "The most urgent issue is to overhaul short-term tourist arrivals by simplifying the system. At present, the nationals of around 60 countries (including the US, UK, EU and Australia) can receive 30 days Visa exempt with a further 30 days on offer by visiting the local Immigration Office. The Tourist Authority of Thailand is urging that Visa exempt should mean 90 days on entry without further ado. This might be an easier way to attract European snowbirds, rather than forcing them to apply for visas in advance, although it is not clear how many would be swayed by less bureaucracy."
So yeah as we are going into the high season here in Thailand and especially in light of the fact that we have a new Government here in Thailand, there seems to be a great deal of concern about this upcoming high season and how many tourists Thailand can attract. And the Government, especially officials in the Government seem pretty keen on doing whatever they can to attract the largest number of tourists to Thailand as we can get which is definitely a good thing. It is nice to see a Government which is responsive to the tourism sector and the fact that the tourism sector has had to deal with the doldrums lo these past 3 years, so it is definitely good to see.
It will be interesting to see, we have discussed this in another video whether or not the 30-day exemption stamp could be increased up to 90 days. It will be interesting to see whether that will be rolled out or whether we will see an increase in the number of easy-to-get Tourist Visas or easier options for certain nationalities to enter Thailand without the need for a Visa before coming here. All of this is kind of up in the air right now but what is good to see is that generally speaking, there seems to be a great deal of momentum behind the idea of increasing tourism to the Kingdom of Thailand.
