Should Thai Immigration Take a Page from Cambodia?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are posing the question, “Should Thailand's Immigration folks maybe start having a look at the playbook of the Cambodians?”

The reason I thought of this, I came from a recent article in the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, article is titled: It's time to Let Go rather than retain Test and Go. A small excerpt here, I urge folks to go ahead and check out that article, but a small excerpt I thought was noteworthy. "For example, entrants to Cambodia need only a pre-departure PCR test and a quick ATK test on arrival at Phnom Penh airport. Insurance there is recommended but is not compulsory." So throughout that article they are kind of talking about why Thailand probably needs to go ahead and roll back a lot of the restrictions associated with inbound travel and they are noting the fact, and I haven't really kept up with this as much as I otherwise would have, there has been a lot going, on but yeah Cambodia has rolled back a ton of the restrictions associated with getting into Cambodia. It is just not the difficult process that it once was and it does not appear that that is going to change anytime soon.

So the question becomes, could Thailand start losing out in terms of tourism numbers to other jurisdictions in the region, in this case Cambodia, as a result of the easing of their restrictions relative to the somewhat cumbersome notwithstanding the fact we have seen a lot rolled back and credit where credit is due, it has rolled back in the past few months but notwithstanding that, it is still  not a fun process to get into Thailand compared to times past, at the present time and other countries are rolling back arguably more quickly. Could that detrimentally impact overall tourism numbers to Thailand? I would say it is quite possible.

So it is probably a good idea in my mind for Thai Immigration to maybe have a look at what is going on over there maybe at a policy level to start seriously reconsidering these policies so we can see the Tourism Sector turn around and hopefully we can economically get on a sound footing sooner rather than later.
