Should Foreign Retirees Worry About Thai Immigration's Latest Crackdown?

Transcript of the above video:

We have done a number of videos here recently talking about recent reports, basically crackdowns by Immigration as well as strict scrutiny on foreigners who are especially working illegally here in Thailand. This is all kind of occurring over the backdrop if you will of recent tensions within the Police Department here in Thailand which in my opinion as I have discussed in other videos, is likely to if nothing else, contribute to more momentum behind the notion of being assiduous in dealing with foreign criminals as sort of a counterbalance if you will to internal tensions, that's kind of the way I look at it.

Leaving that aside though, the question posed by this video: "Should retirees be really all that worried about these crackdowns?" Generally speaking, I would say no. And the vast majority of retirees, all of this is just something that I would sort of just put in the back of my mind. I am not saying don't keep an eye on Thai Immigration, that's something that as an expat here in Thailand you are probably going to want to do to one degree or another. I would say it is probably more acute the closer you get to any given renewal of a Retirement Visa on a given presumably yearly basis.

That said, again if you are not working illegally here in Thailand, if you truly are a retiree, you are maintaining your Retirement Visa status, you are maintaining the terms of that Visa, you are not falling outside of it in terms of overstay or not filing things like ongoing 90-day reporting or TM30 for address reporting if you change your house registration in terms of address here in Thailand, if you are keeping up with all that good stuff, I don't see any good reason why one should even worry about these ongoing crackdowns associated primarily with those working illegally here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
