The Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

I have dealt with this Embassy quite frequently. It is a frequent destination for what I call Visa Runners and I make a distinction between those who are on a Visa Run as opposed to a Border Run. A Border Run I generally term as somebody who runs to a border in order to cross out and cross back in in order to maintain their lawful status in Thailand. This may be via a Thai Tourist Visa, a 30-day exemption stamp or in certain cases, those who maintain a one-year multi-entry Thai Non-immigrant Visa. Those folks may get a 90-day stamp by crossing out and crossing back in to Thailand.

The Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh is not up next to the Border obviously and for that reason, generally speaking you are going to see people who are going on a Visa Run to actually obtain a Thai Visa to return to Thailand. You are going to see a lot of those folks using that post. I have personally gone to this post multiple times throughout my career here in Thailand, in fact even recently in matters pertaining to Thai Immigration and obtaining visas from that particular post. The folks there are quite are quite efficient albeit they do get quite a backlog depending on the day so it is generally a good idea to go over there early.

The address of the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia is 196 Preah Narodom Boulevard (41), Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Phnom Penh Embassy, a lot of folks really like in my experience using that Embassy. Phnom Penh is kind of a fun town. It is a nice place to do 2- 3 days to obtain one's Visa in order to come back into Thailand. Generally speaking, it is going to be required that you are going to have to probably fly in although you could drive and have quite a scenic view of rural Cambodia before you get to Phnom Penh but it is not really a place we see a lot of "Border Runners" go.

Again, something else to keep in mind is different Embassies do things differently. The plenary power vested in Ministry of Foreign Affairs Officers posted to Thai Embassies and Consulates abroad provides a great deal of latitude in making evidentiary and factual determinations with respect to a visa application. Also it should be noted that there is a lot of administrative discretion that is provided to Officers at Embassies at Consulates outside of Thailand.  For this reason the way things are done for example in Phnom Penh may be very different from the way things are done at the Thai Embassy in Laos or the Thai Embassy in Malaysia. It just may be different and for this reason it is a good idea in many ways to contact a legal professional to ascertain how exactly a case needs to be processed through the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh Cambodia.
