Proof of Residence, Business Visas, and Thai Consulates
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Business Visas and we are specifically discussing proof of residence in the context of Thai Consulates.
So what are we talking about here? What we are talking about here is what I would describe as Thai Consular jurisdiction or Consular jurisdiction for purposes of adjudicating a Thai Business Visa. What this means is we are talking about if you are in a third country, so let's say you are from the United States, you are out here in Southeast Asia and you want to go ahead and get a Business Visa to remain in Thailand or to do business in Thailand. Perhaps you have a company, perhaps you just want to work in Thailand whatever, but you are looking to obtain a Business Visa here in the Kingdom, and maintain your status that way. The thing to understand now especially is there is an e-Visa system associated with virtually all Thai Embassies and Consulates throughout the world so it is sort of an online component. One of the requirements associated with this online component is proof of residence within a Consular jurisdiction. What is a Consular jurisdiction? It's the area in which a Consulate serves. So for example, the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, just pulling it out of the air, in Phnom Penh has a Consulate that processes visas. Their Consular jurisdiction is Cambodia and oftentimes now we are seeing more and more in Consular processing of Thai Business Visa cases that they want to see proof that a person actually resides in that Consular jurisdiction.
Now we don't know exactly what the ramifications of this are at this point in time but the thing to take away from this video is I think this could make obtaining Business Visas in the region a little bit more cumbersome compared to times past.
