Overstaying Foreigners Arrested In Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing foreigners who are overstaying here in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Finns arrested in Patong after fake cop extortion claim. Quoting directly: "Two Finnish men have been arrested for overstay after they duped one of the men's parents out of 7,000 Euros (about B267,295) by falsely telling them their son had been arrested and needed the money for his release." So I don't mean to laugh at this because it is serious but it is kind of one of these wacky stories.
I urge those who are watching this video go check out that article from Phuket News in detail. But yeah, it appears these folks were here in Thailand; they sort of called back home and one person apparently hadn't been in touch with their parents and somebody else called them and said "oh he's jammed up, he needs money. They then sent the money; sounds like they were pretty good parents trying to help their kid out, and it turns out it was some kind of bamboozle scam kind of deal. Again I urge those who are watching this video, just read the article in detail.
More to the point for this video is again when in doubt, use the easiest thing which apparently upon being arrested, these folks it turns out they were on overstay, so the easiest way to get rid of them is to just deport them on the overstay and blacklist them accordingly. I don't know if they will ultimately see due process associated with criminal activity here in Thailand or just be deported out of the country, that remains to be seen. But thing to take away from this video again, as we have discussed in many other videos, don't overstay. Perhaps maybe not try to con people's parents out of money when they are trying to be good parents and take care of their family; that's also not a particularly good idea. But again, overstay in and of itself is not only a reason for detention but also deportation and possible blacklisting from the Kingdom of Thailand.
