Ongoing Inspections of Thai O Visa Holders?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Marriage Visas here in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "I have lived in Thailand for 10 years and a homeowner in Khon Kaen. I have just got a new non-O-Marriage Visa. This time, Immigration wanted to come to my house, take photos etc. My Visa took a month to get granted. They did say it was a one-off and next year it would be simple again."

Yeah well they may say a lot of things. Oftentimes they just say things to end the situation and move on and I'm not trying to cause consternation to the commenter or people that are on an O Marriage Visa but as we have noted in prior videos in the past, there have been a surprisingly large number of inspections associated with O Marriage Visas. The main reason for this is that there was a spate of sham marriages in connection with O Marriage Visa status, this goes back 6, 7 years ago but yeah it was something that was happening; unfortunately it involved corruption of a Government Official. It was really a pretty bad deal but long story short, it resulted in a lot of heightened scrutiny associated with the O Marriage Visa. Now it's very likely the Immigration Officer was probably pretty on point. You're probably not going to see him next year; you may not see him for a while but don't presume you will never see an inspection happen again because we have had clients who do maintain an O Marriage Visa here in the Kingdom and they have seen multiple inspections even from year to year and just because one Immigration Officer says one thing, they may not be in that office later. They may get transferred to another office or be in some other job at a later date so what they say may not necessarily be the case.

That said, I don't think it's overly logical to presume that you will see inspections on a year to year basis. It's more likely that okay they will do one and then a few years go by and then they may do another one and then they may do another one but it's not a bad idea to just keep in the back of one's mind the possibility that they may be inspected in association with a Thai Marriage Visa a second time or maybe even a third time or just multiple times.
