As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing October 1st and new O-A Retirement Visa requirements. Specifically, we are talking about insurance requirements. Now, up until now there has been an insurance requirement associated with the O-A Retirement Visa. To be clear, we are talking about the O-A Retirement Visa not the O Retirement Visa. For those of you who are watching this who are thinking about the O Retirement Visa or looking at your own Visa, if you have an O Retirement Visa, I am not talking about O Retirement Visas, I am talking about O-A Retirement Visas.

Now what are we talking about with respect to October 1? Well as discussed nearly a year ago, starting nearly a year ago, Thai policy makers have formulated new regulations associated with insurance requirements necessary to both obtain and maintain an O-A Retirement Visa. This requirement simply put, is 100,000 US Dollars coverage under some kind of approved insurance policy. So there are certain policies that Thai Immigration will routinely accept. In the past it was a lower threshold; basically I think you needed to show 400,000 Baht inpatient coverage, 40,000 Baht outpatient coverage. Now it is going up to 3 million Baht; 100,000 US dollars’ worth of coverage. Of note, it may be possible in lieu of using insurance, it may be possible to use $100,000 in a bank account as surety to get an O-A Visa issued or renewed depending on circumstances, but again this is a major policy change. We are going up substantially from where we have been at the last few years. 

Again this is for the O-A Retirement Visa beginning October 1. It does not pertain to the O Retirement Visa. As of now there is no change with respect insurance requirements associated with the O Retirement Visa but definitely something to keep in mind for retirees or prospective retirees looking to come retire here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
