"No Evidence of TRD Seeking to Identify Expats Through Their Visas"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Thai Revenue Department. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thai lawyer downplays expat visa awards versus personal taxation worries. Quoting directly: "As regards Thai immigration Authorities, their main concern is Visa-related regulation and investigations into business fraud such as unauthorized working, use of nominees as shareholders and illegal short-term renting of condominium units." Quoting further: "In spite of rumours, I have seen no evidence of TRD," - that is Thai Revenue Department - quoting further: "seeking to identify expats through their visas except those who are accused of a criminal offense."

Yeah, we have talked about this in the past. As of now, it does not seem like Thai Revenue Department has an active interaction with the Immigration apparatus. That said, the mechanism that looked like it was being rolled out at the beginning of this year and then due to a bunch of different factors, most notably Mr. Trump in the US completely rejecting OECD and then Thai Immigration over here is saying, "hey we are rolling out our new departure-arrival card so that sort of forestalls us putting in anything that relates to sort of a tax component’, and I think ultimately OECD will likely be ultimately rejected here in Thailand, I don't think ultimately that framework was going to roll out; we'll see something different. Now my opinion is it will probably be a national version of what would have rolled out before and it will be - to some this may seem like a semantic difference but to those sort of in the "know", no, it's not a semantic difference, sovereignty is never a semantic difference.

That being said, and the thing to take away from this video and understand is, as of the present moment, it does not look like the Thai Revenue Department, that apparatus, is directly interfacing with the Immigration apparatus and therefore those who are looking to come into Thailand should not necessarily worry about being hassled about Tax matters at a checkpoint when entering the Kingdom of Thailand.
