Medical Insurance Concerns in a Thai Immigration Context

Transcript of the above video:

We receive a lot of correspondence, a lot of folks out there are very concerned about policies pertaining to Insurance here in Thailand, specifically travel insurance to come into Thailand as well as insurance in order to maintain status here in Thailand. I thought about making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Pattaya Grapevine: Immigration Melody; I kind of thought that title was rather catchy. Under one of the subheadings: "Looking Forward, Anyone applying for the rich person's 10-year Visa will have to wait until September 1 before applications are accepted either at Embassies or Immigration. Comprehensive medical insurance again raises his head (3 million Baht) with the escape-clause that you will be able to self-insure to that amount if you are too old or infirm to obtain cover."

Yeah, we discussed this in another video recently talking about these so-called LTR Visas where insurance is a mandatory component of the so called Long-Term Resident Visas which as we have discussed are not really Resident Visas, they are really just long Non-Immigrant Visas. That being stated, yeah insurance is a component of the process; it is a component of the evidence required to obtain an LTR Visa and as we have noted in other videos on this channel, a lot of these insurance requirements most notably in an O-A Retirement Visa context but it seems that the LTR this is going to apply there too. This is going to go up to $100,000 worth of coverage so 3 million Baht worth of coverage in order to maintain O-A or LTR presumably LTR Visa status moving forward past the fourth quarter of 2022. Now please note, the O Retirement Visas at least as of the time of this video, the insurance requirements do not pertain to those visas but with respect to the O-A and it looks like the LTR visa as well, it looks like insurance is going to be a component and it looks like it is going to be a component moving into the future.

So those out there who may be kind of worried and kind of agog at what to do with all of this or sort of just overwhelmed by all quite frankly the rather Byzantine regulations with respect to Thai Immigration, it might not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight guidance into how best to proceed.
