"A Major Crackdown" on Foreigners Working Illegally in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing a "major crackdown" of foreigners working illegally in Thailand. Let's jump right in here. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket Express, that's thephuketexpress.com, the article is titled: Phuket Police Crack Down on Illegal Tour Guides Ahead of the Upcoming High Season. Quoting directly: "On October 12th, 2024 Phuket Tourist Police launched a major crackdown on illegal activities ahead of the 2024 tourist high season focusing particularly on unlicensed foreign tour guides and other legal offenses affecting the Tourism Industry." Quoting further: "Phuket local media revealed that the Phuket Police and Immigration in a joint operation have been inspecting key tourist hotspots..." This is worth noting. They're taking a proactive approach, both the Police and Immigration with regard to foreigners working illegally especially in the tourism sector. Quoting further: "..where they encountered a suspicious foreign individual guiding Chinese tourists without properly legal authorization. Authorities escorted Mr. Liu," that's apparently the person, "…to the Phuket Police Station for further legal proceedings." And I urge those who are watching this video, go check out the Phuket Express for more information, it is worth following up if you're interested in more details on that.
That being said and the thing to take away from this video is again, Tourism and the Tourism Sector generally is very much considered a no-go zone for foreign nationals here in Thailand. As discussed in other videos, it's not even possible to get a Work Permit for this type of undertaking because again it's considered a restricted occupation here in the Kingdom. As we're seeing high season starting to kind of get into full swing, I think it's fairly logical to presume or infer that we are probably going to see more crackdowns like this as things move forward because unfortunately, a number of foreign nationals deem it necessary to come to Thailand in order to work illegally.
