Long Term Thai Visas Approved "In Principle"?
Transcript of the above video:
The reason I am making this video today is I have seen a lot of folks on the internet, I have had correspondence talking about these proposed new visas, these long-term so-called 10-year Visas that are supposedly being rolled out. I wanted to make this video to just provide some clarification here.
A recent article from Hua Hin Today, that is huahintoday.com, the article is titled: Thailand to "focus on quality tourists who can spend more". I just thought that this excerpt was really insightful. Quoting directly: "Dr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a spokesman for the Prime Minister's office, disclosed that the Cabinet has approved in principle a host of economic and investment stimulus measures aimed at attracting high potential foreigners to Thailand for long-term stay." First of all go check out huahintoday.com, check out that article, there is a lot more going on in there. They go in to details which I am not going to get into in this video.
Long story short, we have done other videos talking about these proposed visas. I have seen a lot of folks out there talking about this like it is a foregone conclusion; like these visas are already there; like they want to know what the exact requirements are. We don't know any of that. We don't know exactly what these are going to look like. Again quoting directly: "The Cabinet has approved 'in principle'. I think somebody out there in the ether or the internet, I think was in the Pattaya Mail said the "devil's in the details" and it always is.
We have seen a lot of these flamboyant, I don't know how to put it, we have seen a lot of these announcements with great fanfare about these programs, I am not talking about here recently. Going back 10 - 15 years every now and then, a new program will roll out to great fanfare and often times we find that it is only going to apply to a very narrow subset of folks. I suspect to one degree or another that is going to be very similar to what we see here with these proposed long-stay 10-year visas. As we have already seen and discussed, it is meant to target a pretty high from a wealth standpoint, a pretty high level wealthy type of person to get this type of visa and for this reason, it remains to be seen how this is going to play out. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
