Is It Time for Thailand to "Let It Go"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are posing the question: "Should Thailand "Let It Go"? and when I think "let it go" unfortunately I have had a 6, 7 year old around me for a little while the past few days and I keep thinking of that movie "Frozen" with that song "Let It Go". It popped into my head yet again annoyingly in many ways, when I was reading quite a good article from the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article was titled: It's time to let go rather than retain Test and Go! So immediately when I saw that, let go it was just "Let it Go, let it..", it just drove me nuts but I thought it was worth making this video because it might be time for Thailand to let go of the old "Test and Go".
Quoting directly from this article: "Several 100 delegates to a Thailand Tourism Forum assembly have urged the government to abolish its test and go entry requirements or risk a collapse in the International Tourism Market. Marisa Sukosol, president of the hotels association, said it was time to Let It Go and get rid of pointless restrictions such as a compulsory PCR test in a pre-booked hotel on arrival."
I couldn't agree more. I think it is about time we do this. We know where things stand especially with respect to vaccinated folks. I don't understand the point of these ongoing, I don't know what you want to call it, ongoing obstacles? I mean how many hoops do people need to get through to just go relax? I mean it really is kind of an irony that in order to come to a place ostensibly where you are looking to relax and just chill out, you have got to go through the gauntlet of almost Soviet level bureaucracy in order to undertake that relaxation activity. It really is time. I mean it's really time to seriously start putting this stuff aside and let's move on with our lives especially when you consider tourism has been hit hard. As we have noted in other videos, under normal circumstances it is 20% of GDP. That 20% has been knocked back by like 90%. We have lost 18% of GDP over the last couple of years as a result of Tourism effectively not being around. The fact is with the tumultuous nature of the world being what it is, we need to do what we can. I understand Thailand has to do what it can to maintain herself and maintain her security, but at the same time tourism is a big money earner and economic security is a good thing as well so my opinion is yeah it is probably time for Thailand to "let it go" and get over this Test and Go stuff and let's move on so we can get some serious tourism numbers, hopefully here in the middle and end of 2022 and into 2023 and onward.
