Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well we are discussing Work Permit renewals specifically. The question posed is how often do Thai Work Permits need to be renewed? Well it depends. There are different types of Thai work authorization. Depending on the type that you have, it may be renewable on a one year or two year basis, sometimes even 5 year; things like the Smart Visa etc. with work authorization fall under a different category.
I am going to talk about the standard type of Thai Work Permit as well as BOI One Stop Work Permits, so that is the Board of Investment. These are the vast majority of Work Permits we see here in Thailand, are the standard one year renewable Thai Work Permit or if you are with a company or you set up a company that has BOI promotion, Board of Investment promotion, you may be using the One Stop Center which then requires renewal on a dual year basis, 2-year basis. So again, it is going to depend on the type of Work Permit you have but yes, for the vast majority of folks especially those who run a small business here in Thailand, set up a bar and grill, they own a restaurant, small businesses associated with just various types of business undertaking here in Thailand, those type of folks are going to find themselves having to renew that Work Permit on a yearly basis. Generally speaking, they are also going to renew their Work Permit at either the same time or a time very close in line with the time in which they are going to be renewing their Work Permit (correction: Business Visa).
So again, it is going to be fact-based; it is going to be dependent on the circumstances. Those who find all this Work Permit stuff a bit overwhelming, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
