Foreigner Arrested For Running "Sex For Sale Website" In Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing a foreigner being arrested in Thailand for running a "sex for sale website". I thought of making this video after reading a recent article in the Thai Examiner, that's thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: Biggest “Sex for Sale website” shut down by police unit in early morning raid targeting foreigners. Quoting directly: "Deputy Immigration Bureau Chief Police Major Panthana Nuchanart," (now bear in mind this is the Deputy Immigration Bureau Police Chief, Deputy Immigration Bureau. I saw some comments in private videos where they said "what does the National Police have to do with Immigration?" If they are police, they are police. It is not this compartmentalization to the same extent that we think of it in kind of a western context, okay? Police are police. They overlap. If it was a Venn diagram if you will, there is overlapping thing, you call it jurisdiction, subject matter, jurisdiction I think that even puts too much of a, it's too much clarity. You are using very definitive language to describe what is sometimes a fuzzy mechanism. But yeah this is Immigration Police. Now it involves a foreigner so I kind of see why but again, bear in mind that these things intersect. Quoting again: "Deputy Immigration Bureau Chief Police Major Panthana Nuchanart explained that the operation carried out by a special task force was part of a programme ordered by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha targeting online criminality linked to foreigners in Thailand which was damaging the image of the Kingdom and which posed a nuisance to the public." Quoting further: "Police this week arrested an American Thai couple in Hua Hin after they suppressed the operation of what they believed to be Thailand's leading prostitution website catering to foreign tourists in the Kingdom. A Press conference in Bangkok was told that Baht 40 million in assets were seized including a pool villa and Baht 9 million in Bank deposits in a joint task force raid last Sunday morning."

So again, Immigration, they can act rather broadly and I thought it was interesting to note that the Prime Minister specifically seems to have ordered the targeting of, I am going to quote again: "Online criminality linked to foreigners in Thailand which was damaging the image of the Kingdom and which posed a nuisance to the public." So again, Thai Authorities as well as Thai law enforcement take foreigners engaging in activities which for lack of a better term "make the Kingdom look bad" seriously and there's not going to be a lot of "leeway" associated with that.

Now again, I know that there may be people that say I am being hyperbolic or scaremongering, not my purpose. I mean if you read this article and I urge you to do so, again thaiexaminer.com, as usual they go into a great deal of detail, this thing was pretty open and notorious. If you watch another of my videos where I am discussing whether or not prostitution is illegal or legal in Thailand, we go into that analysis. But yeah, this was pretty brazen so I am not really surprised that the Thai Authorities cracked down on this the way that they have. Now exactly how this plays out remains to be seen. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
