An End to the Thailand Pass in 2022?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the possibility of an end to the Thailand Pass in 2022. I have made some other videos where we have been talking about the possibility that the overall situation is going to be deemed endemic and we could see a significant rollback of Immigration rules, regulations, just general obstacles that have existed since March of 2020 for those foreign nationals looking to enter Thailand.

Now the thing to understand about this situation is that it is definitely really, really fluid. I talked about a broader rollback but I wanted to read a quick excerpt from a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com. I urge those who are watching these videos you should check these articles out or this specific one out. Whenever I do quote stuff I am kind of hoping our audience does go view the article because it is pertinent. The article title is: Hoping for a return to normalcybangkokpost.com, they are quoting the Association of Thai Travel Agents' President. He said: "Entry registrations on the Thailand Pass system should be terminated to pay the way for normal entry regulations as used prior to the pandemic." Now what is presupposed there is that this is declared endemic and that the Thailand Pass should end. I have to say, I think that that is a really, really, really good idea and it only makes sense if you think about it from a legal standpoint. The Emergency Decree was invoked in March of 2020. That thereby begat if you will the Certificate of Entry situation, the Certificate of Entry process. We dealt with that from March 2020 into I believe the summer of 2021 if my memory doesn't fail me; in fact I think was even October of 2021 if I am not mistaken. Then we saw Thailand Pass come out which was a much more, let's call it streamlined process. Now as have I discussed another videos, I kind of think it was six of one, half a dozen of the other. Overall, in a lot of ways it was very similar to the other system but I think the right word is streamlined. It did work a lot better. We had tons of issues dealing with Certificates of Entry for that roughly 18 - 19 months of having to deal with it.

Now if this thing is deemed endemic and we do see a real turnaround on some of this, hopefully one of the biggest things we see is the Thailand Pass be terminated because it is no longer needed. It only came about as a result of the Emergency Decree and we can kind of put all this past us because presumably the emergency is over. So, the thing to take away from this video is: Would it be good I think for the Tourism Industry? No doubt. Would we see a full reversion to the way things were prior to March 2020? Well it remains to be seen but we will keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
