An End to the COVID Visa Amnesty in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing what appears to be the very, very end of the COVID Visa Amnesty. I got to thinking about this when reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, was titled Grapevine: Hardly a pension and under the subcategory: COVID Extensions a Rarity. Quoting directly: Thai Immigration Offices seem to have mostly abandoned the 60 days COVID extensions which have been a feature of the extension of stay system for almost two years. They can still be given until late March but are a discretion and most punters are finding it hard to convince the Immigration Officer of their case. Nonetheless, some well-connected Visa agents can still arrange but not for 1,900 Baht. Of course!"
Well I haven't seen any Visa agents or anybody else. I deal with Immigration daily. These COVID extensions it looks like they are coming to an end. I am not seeing any avenues whereby anybody is coming up with any COVID extensions willy-nilly; let's put it that way. They are pretty heavily scrutinizing reasoning for the extension and we have been told in multiple different cases, "hey, look this one is your last," and that has been over the course of the last couple of months where we have been assisting clients.
So those that have not gotten into regularized status, it is probably a good time to go ahead and do so. It has been a lot of time to have that ability but probably a good idea to go ahead and get yourself into regularized status sooner rather than later.
