Does Thailand Actually Have a "Marriage Visa" Category?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Marriage Visas and the question posed is: "Is there actually a category of Thai Marriage Visa?" and by this I mean is there an actual codified Marriage Visa category.

Let's be clear there is a codified for example Tourist Visa category, Business Visa category but is there a codified Marriage Visa category. The answer to that is technically speaking NO. There is a miscellaneous category; basically any other reasons pursuant to ministerial regulations under the Immigration Act of '79 but there is not actually an overt Marriage Visa category. The O Visa which basically stands for "other" in my mind at least, is a miscellaneous catch all category that Immigration created regulations which will allow those with Thai family members, in this case a Thai spouse, to go ahead and actually get an O Visa. But understand, it is all done under regulation, not under statutory law.

So, strictly speaking there is no statutorily defined Marriage Visa in Thailand. There is an O Visa for miscellaneous, a catch all category and then Immigration created Ministerial Regulations to allow those married to Thai Nationals to gain longer term visa status specifically Non-immigrant status in O Visa status pursuant to their marriage.
