Do I Get My Work Permit Before I Come to Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Work Permits. The question posed is "Do I get my Work Permit before I come to Thailand?" The answer is sort of. What you get is what is called a work pre-authorization document or a WP3 document. That document is akin to a Work Permit. It authorizes that person to work in Thailand but it is actually not a Work Permit in and of itself. Upon issuance of a Business Visa and arrival here in the Kingdom, that person then after arrival needs to go down, check in with the Labour Department and then deal with filing to get their Work Permit properly issued; an actual duly issued Work Permit needs to be issued by the Labour Department upon arrival in Thailand. But, you do need to deal with this pre-authorization before you even get here and that can lead to some catch 22 scenarios especially for SMEs, folks looking to set up small businesses here in Thailand. You get into kind of a cart before the horse thing. We oftentimes provide a number of solutions to clients with respect to Work Permits when they are setting up their new company.
So for those out there, it may not be a terrible idea if you are looking at this issue and you are kind of overwhelmed, maybe contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
